This version of the tandem bike builds on the resistance-only system by adding a biofeedback layer that actively encourages sustained pedaling and engagement. The passenger pedals independently while the caretaker retains complete control over steering, speed, and braking, ensuring safety at all times.
Pedaling effort is sensed and translated into immediate positive feedback—such as music or auditory cues—creating a clear and motivating connection between physical effort and reward. The feedback system was intentionally designed to be intuitive and nonverbal, allowing the rider to understand cause-and-effect without relying on complex instructions or communication.
As with the resistance-only design, the passenger’s pedaling is decoupled from vehicle motion, eliminating risk while preserving the physical experience of cycling. The addition of biofeedback shifts the experience from passive exercise to active participation, reinforcing consistency, confidence, and enjoyment during rides.
This design emphasizes safety, autonomy, and engagement, using simple sensing and feedback mechanisms to support meaningful physical activity without compromising control.
