Patent(provisonal under evaluation)- Remote Low-Cost Post Partum Hemorrhaging Device

PPH Early-Warning Sensor

The Postpartum Hemorrhage Early-Warning Sensor is a low-cost, hybrid disposable–reusable device designed to detect dangerous maternal bleeding in real time. Built to integrate seamlessly with BRASS-V and other calibrated obstetric drapes, the system uses a thin, sterile carbon-trace sensing insert that activates automatically as blood rises through clinically significant thresholds (500 mL, 1000 mL, 1500 mL, 2000 mL).

Each threshold triggers an immediate alert through a compact reusable module, which can escalate notifications to clinician smartphones, nurse stations, or hospital monitoring dashboards—ensuring no critical change goes unnoticed, even in busy or understaffed labor environments.

Unlike complex optical or electronic systems, this device is intentionally simple, affordable, and reliable. If electronics fail, the drape still provides accurate visual measurement—making it safe for all delivery settings, including low-resource or rural maternity centers.

By transforming a standard PPH drape into an intelligent early-warning system, this invention helps clinicians respond faster, reduce delays in treatment, and ultimately prevent avoidable maternal deaths. It brings life-saving detection to the exact moment when seconds matter most.

The design started on an actual napkin with graphite pencil and salt water. Knowing the proof of concept worked, gave way to the low cost stick version which is what is provisinally patented. The provisinal patent will last until November 2026.
