Patented(provisional)-Zero Gravity IV Bag

The Zero-Gravity IV Bag is a provisinally patented infusion system designed to deliver IV fluids safely and consistently without relying on gravity, making it ideal for low-resource hospitals, field care, emergency transport, and space-constrained environments.

Traditional IV systems require the fluid bag to be hung at a specific height to create hydrostatic pressure. In many settings — rural clinics, ambulances, disaster zones, or crowded wards — there is no stable place to hang a bag, leading to dangerous flow interruptions or improvised, unsafe solutions.

My design replaces height-based pressure with a self-contained mechanical pressure driver built directly into the bag housing. This allows healthcare workers to administer IV fluids:

  • Without gravity or vertical clearance
  • Without poles or wall mounts
  • In moving vehicles and cramped environments
  • With a predictable and steady flow rate
  • With dramatically reduced setup time

The system uses a lightweight, low-cost pressure mechanism that maintains constant force on the fluid reservoir, ensuring reliable infusion even when the bag is placed on a bed, beside a patient, or on the floor. A built-in safety channel prevents over-pressurization and backflow, while an optional air-trap module reduces the risk of air embolism.

Because it requires no electricity, pumps, or special hardware, the Zero-Gravity IV Bag works in:

  • Rural and low-resource clinics
  • Ambulance transport
  • Emergency response teams
  • Military medicine
  • Disaster relief
  • Home-care environments
  • Even zero-gravity or microgravity scenarios

This invention expands access to safe IV therapy in exactly the places where conventional solutions fail. It’s lightweight, manufacturable, and designed around the real constraints of frontline healthcare workers.
